The iTACKLE project is an ambitious Erasmus+ initiative designed to strengthen democratic engagement and intercultural awareness among primary school pupils. By promoting Active European Citizenship, the project cultivates essential values such as equality, empathy, and human rights through inclusive and experiential learning. This vision aims to create a more cohesive Europe by equipping young learners with the life skills necessary to thrive in multicultural societies and contribute actively to democracy.
Recent research involving 314 teachers, parents, and pupils across partner countries has identified significant generational communication gaps regarding cultural competencies and inclusion. Findings suggest that while volunteering is important, political literacy and social justice are critical for effective citizenship education. Experts emphasize that children must be viewed as active agents of social change and co-creators of civic understanding rather than passive recipients of knowledge.
